Rotten Fresh-food-people underpaid (again!)
Docked pay through impractical smoko policy

Working at the fresh food people as a part-time Personal Shopper has its quirks, especially how the company allows their staff for rest/break/smoko. The below is a summary of the allotment of breaks for their staff:

* Less than 4 hours - No rest break - No meal break
* 4 hours and up to and including 5 hours - 1 x 15-minute rest break - No meal break
* More than 5 hours but less than 7 hours - 1 x 15-minute rest break - 1 x 30 to 60 minutes as agreed
* 7 hours or more, but less than 10 hours - 2 x 15-minute rest breaks - 1 x 30 to 60 minutes as agreed
* 10 hours or more - 2 x 15-minute rest breaks - 2 x 30 to 60 minutes as agreed

Here is why it is flawed:

As casuals, you don't know how long you are going to work during the day. Most of the time you go to work, the three hours allocated on your roster get extended. But how do you take a break when you are on your fourth hour and have no idea the job queue you are about to start will last?

If you take a break now, they do not entitle you to one, but you are more likely to skip your entitlement if you don't take the break.

I mean, who would take a break at the end of their shift? Wouldn't they rather go home? Most workers don't take their allocated break and are therefore underpaid.

There are ways to take away your rights by making things too hard to practice; this is one example.

Until the workers understand that to do nothing will get them nowhere. Their apathy will haunt them, " how did we let this happen?". It didn't start yesterday, this was allowed to happen by your own accord when you tolerate injustice.
