Financial slavery
Australia is the land of dreams come true. We are top of the world in terms of wealth and standard of living. But why aren't we top in the world in terms of happiness? Surely we can do better?
Financial slavery is a new phrase. Australians may earn more than most people on this earth, but we are poor. People are so deeply in debt, buy now pay later, credit card debts, car loans, never-ending home improvements. Most of these debts are on depreciating assets. They constrict as a python squeezes more tightly every time we exhale.
This is why you feel like you are running on a hamster wheel. You are part of the rat race, consuming more and adding the extra burden; even when you earn more, you sink lower because of your so reliant monthly paycheck.
Your monthly salary is your bondage, keeping you in line, taking away your independence. To keep yourself in the system, you forgo your choices; your heart no longer guides you, your soul dies a little when you pressure your subordinate to improve the company bottom line. When you discriminate against others due to their beliefs, You are part of the clog that takes away your humanity through the most significant part of your waking hour, work.
To be part of a company, you must do dirty deeds that contradict your ethical beliefs. Sometimes you must discriminate, but since you are replaceable, your effort to make a difference seems futile. The company will find someone willing to follow the company guidelines.
I propose a life of owning less but experiencing more. You will be able to say no when you are less attached. No matter your beliefs, our priority is to gain your freedom. And when you finally win that prize, you are indeed free from tyranny.
